About Us
ArtisCan – Bridging Cultures Through Craft
At ArtisCan, we believe every handcrafted piece tells a story—of heritage, resilience, and the invisible threads that connect us across continents. Founded by Sadat and Zia, two passionate advocates for sustainable craftsmanship, we bridge the vibrant traditions of Bangladesh with the creative spirit of Canada, while curating rare handicrafts from artisans worldwide.
Our Story
Sadat, a Bangladeshi migrant artist and interior designer and Zia, a Bangladeshi-Canadian pursuing a PhD in sustainable finance, came together with a shared vision: to celebrate slow craftsmanship in a fast-paced world. What began as a mission to introduce Kantha embroidery—a centuries-old Bangladeshi art form—into Canada, has grown into a curated collection of global handicrafts and home decor, each piece carrying the soul of its maker.
In 2018, Sadat co-founded Kanthitu — a sister company to ArtisCan — in Souzay Champigny, France, which exclusively serves European clientele.
Why We Do It
🌍 Cultural Bridges: We connect Canadian homes with authentic, ethically made treasures—from Bangladeshi Kantha to hand-carved Canadian quilts to woven Indian textiles.
✊ Empowering Artisans: Our partnerships ensure fair wages, safe working conditions, and the survival of vanishing crafts, especially for women in rural areas of Bangladesh and Canada.
♻️ Sustainable by Design: We upcycle materials (like vintage saris) and prioritize low-waste production.
🎨 Artisan-Curated: Our design ensures each piece balances tradition with contemporary appeal.
Our Values
Handmade, Not Mass-Produced – We reject factory uniformity in favour of human touch and imperfection.
Global Craft, Local Impact – By selling in Canada, we sustain livelihoods here and 8,000 miles away while fostering cross-cultural curiosity here.
Meet the Founders
Sadat (The Creative): Infuses each collection with an artist’s eye, scouring villages and workshops for techniques the world forgot.
Zia (The Strategist): Merges his management expertise with a passion for ethical supply chains, ensuring artisans earn dignity, not just wages.
“We don’t just sell crafts—we sell connections. Every stitch, carve, and weave is a protest against disposable culture.”
— Sadat & Zia
